The Cotel is in an excellent location being very close to the beach, but if you want to explore other areas of LA, a bus to downtown takes over an hour. The Rooms vere not so dirty but ice-cold even when they promised to turn up the heat. A lot of drugs on the hostel, and strange people living in the dorms. Kitchen was very poor equiped, no free wi-fi, no lockers. The location was good but nothing more really. Helena, from Sweden ~ 11th Jan 2012

I was travelling on my own but the Venie Beach Cotel did not feel lonely at the slightest. The great staff get you involved with events there and everyone hangs out together every night. I met some really good people there and made some great friends. Definitely the best place to stay in LA if you are looking for a good time. Alun, from England ~ 30th Nov 2011

I had an excellent stay at Venice Beach Cotel. It's very clean, the location is awesome as well as the security. There's a common lounge area for you to get to know other travelers and there's computers for you to use after paying a small fee. 1) Free parking as advertised at hostels.com not actually provided by hostel, but is street parking several blocks away. This is misleading and false advertising on the part of hostels.com. 2) Found insect on bed in room. Could be bedbug, but am unsure. 3) Blankets on bed were dirty. 4) Common areas were kept quite clean. 5) Some rooms lacked enough lockers for each occupant. 6) Friendly and helpful staff saved what could have been a very poor experience.
