They should a light or two along the path from the common area to the 7-bed dorms. It is dark and there are several steps that can easily be forgotten, especially after a beer or six Jay, from USA ~ 6th Nov 2009

The staff was the friendliest & most informative/helpful out of any hostel recently. I really got a sense that they cared and made the extra effort to make me feel comfortable. The courtyard atmosphere's charm really was brought out well too! Haskel, from USA ~ 22nd Oct 2009

Right in the center of Old Town Pingyao, this really is the best location possible. The staff were helpful, the building has character, and the internet and other services work reasonably well. Like most (all) buildings in Pingyao, it's not always spotless, and the luggage area is just an open unlocked room. Still, this place is nice to stay at, and safe enough if you keep your bags locked in your own room. Tim, from USA ~ 30th Jul 2009

Yamen Hostel is a great place to stay. Super friendly staff, esp. Tom the manager. Friday night - dumpling night. Free Internet and DVD. Clean rooms in a beautiful old chinese house. Strongly recommended. Constanze, from Germany ~ 7th Jun 2009
