I have been to many hostels but this one seemed more a military dorm.. The place has NO atmosphere.. The internet is not free (and I was told for wifi they didnt even know if it worked by the staff) They charge a 6 Frank per night fee just if your not a member - I am a member but had my wallet stolen and still got charged. and they also have a bern tax which is on top of the booking value... If you want a bed this is for you, if you want some atmosphere look again.. It is close to the rive David, from Australia ~ 2nd Aug 2009

We enjoyed our stay here, nice clean beds and thank goodness for the soundproof windows! the staff were lovely and gave great advice on discount train tickets. There are a lot of stairs but the building is clean. Unisex toilets are a bit ho-hum but tolerable. showers were clean. it was expensive for what it is but zurich does tend to be so we were happy, considering the fantastic location. I had to pay 6Euros because I'm not member, and I was checking out and there was someone checking in and they offered him a 0,60euros donnation to a campain instead of paying the 6euro. An excellent hostel and a good advert for the YHA. The best free breakfast I have ever had, very clean and secure. Location is good as well and they have a microwave and kettle. I enjoyed my stay here a lot. Justin, from England ~ 25th Jun 2009

The location is pretty good, but beware that the hostel is closed in the middle of the day (which they didn't tell us ahead of time). The breakfast had plenty of options to pick from. There aren't a lot of options in Bern, and for a bed this was fine. Stephanie, from USA ~ 23rd Jun 2009

6 francs extra per person if not a HI member. Big clean hostel, good breakfast included. Large lockers outside the room is a nice feature, and a key is given for free. Short walk to the train station. Nobody is hanging around during the evening though. Andrew, from USA ~ 16th Jun 2009
