I would not recommend this place. What is the purpose of paying a deposit when they don't even hold a bed for you. Without asking my name or confirmation number, I was told in front of the reception desk that they were full when I arrived and someone there behind the counter after giving me water saw how upset I was in the lobby complaining about having already paid a deposit, led me to another guest house where he said the price I pay will be the same because it was a sister hotel in which "arrangements" already were made for me and when I got there, he started to demand over 3 times the price amount for the bed I originally booked on-line. The next day the bed next to me where I ended up was offered at US$2 and that potential customer still walked out. Hanoi Spirit is a scam and their receptionist will even throw a tantrum at you when you complain just to get you out of the place because he can't speak English very well...Booking a reservation mean nothing to them and it makes Hostel World look bad in the process for allowing this transaction to take place.

We booked to stay in the Hanoi Spirit Hotel before arriving at the hostel - otherwise we would never have bothered. We are not fussy, but we simply did not feel at all safe at the hostel and so we booked to stay in another hostel, The Blue Sky Hotel, straight away. There were no lockers in the room and the staff were far from welcoming, maybe they were just having a bad day... I don't know. This is very much a get what you pay for hostel - great location though, that is pretty much the only thing that I cannot fault.

It's the worst place I have stayed in, the staff have stolen my laptop computer and some cash, and are very aggressive! they said I did not lose my things there and the police are not working during new years, but I found the police down the sreet.... avoid this place, and google this hostel.

The standard of this hotel was very poor. It was very disorganised, especially when they gave our rooms away and then threw some poor guy out of his dormitory bed so that we could sleep for the night. Also, when we then checked out two days early, after the promise of a free night the first night they didn't discount the online booking deposit so essentially they got paid for that first night. I felt like they were just in it for the money. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.
