Reception was unmanned and all gates open for anyone to enter on an early morning at least for 40 minutes - I checked repeatedely on reception between 07.00 and 07.45 as the guy in the reception had promised to help me get the scheduled breakfast, which was otherwise not available early in the morning. I had a tour pick up 07.45.(Officially breakfast; tea and toast, was available from 07.00, but I never found any breakfast at that early hour.) Security lapses are significant in Johannesburg.

It was an interesting place to crash for a night - a good number of people staying there have been there for long extended stays (including locals/expats), which made for an interesting cast of characters. It was the only hostel I stayed in Joburg and it was fine, and I hear it is relatively a very good one - the others are supposedly dumps.
