Denai Lodge in Kota Bharu, Malaysia

Location is great-walking distance to everything. The place is unfinished but it's decent. Standing fans to cool you off - were perfectly fine even for a July summer night. Linens were clean, towels could use a little freshening - nothing a little bleach wouldn't take care of. Walls were dirty in room - should address. FYI, ensuite rooms have shower stall inside, but no toilet. The owner is a neat guy-enjoyed talking with him. Also, they have movies(HBO, cinemax,Star Movies)+ DVDs available. We've spend just one night at Denai Lodge, staying at a double room. It was ok, although for the price (50RM) I would expect a little bit higher standards. The hostel is new, but in an old building and it looks as only minimum renovation has been done - this gives it a bit of "real" atmosphere, but is not the best for comfort. The in-room bathroom was in fact only a shower (this is common in Malaysia, but still...) and there was no A/C. I think you can get a bit better value for that price.
