Shelter City provides guests with great facilities at an affordable price in Amsterdam. The hostel is clean, comfortable and has a friendly atmosphere created by the staff and guests who come from all over the world. Guests can walk to the main tourist attractions such as Dam Square, small China Town and the Red Light District. The hostel is centrally located which means that it is close to Central Station and therefore guests have easy access to anywhere in the city.
The hostel provides great facilities at reasonable prices and a homely atmosphere. Here you will find welcoming international staff speaking English and always willing to help. There's a courtyard and a cafe in the hostel, where you can chill out and relax with some drinks, snacks and meet new people from all over the globe. You can smoke cigarettes in the courtyard only. There is no alcohol, drugs or smoking allowed at Shelter City.
Rooms are single sex of 4-8 beds and 12-16 beds and all dorms are single-sex. Large rooms are divided into sections. This creates more privacy. Prices include taxes. Beds are ready for guests after 13:30. If you book two or more beds, you are not guaranteed the same room for all beds. Make sure you book the correct sex room otherwise your reservation cannot be guaranteed.
A 10 Euro deposit is required for rooms of 4-8 beds that guest will get back when they return the key at check out. Please bring your own padlock or buy one from reception for the free lockers provided.

The atmosphere of the hostel is best suited to those between 15 and 40 years old. No acces for children younger than 3 years old.
This hostel is bigger with 176 beds than its sister hostel Shelter Jordan.
Cancellations must be made by phone/email before midnight two days prior to arrival. If any guests fail to do so or do not show up, one night's stay is charged on their credit card. The same rule applies when an arrival date is changed by email or phone.
Multiple booking policy If the same name, e-mail or credit card is used in multiple bookings for a total of more than 8 people on the same day then we will apply our group payment and cancellation conditions to be found on www.shelter.nl
Bookings of up to 32 people are accepted via this site, for more people please e-mail group@shelter.nl
We reserve the right to cancel online groups of more than 32 people.
If the group booking is just for one night and is on a Friday, Saturday or one of the following dates around public holidays, then an extra charge of 5 euros will be made per bed booked: 21/24 April, 1 May, 1/2/9/12 June, 28/29 December 2011.
Last minute offers are only available for online bookings for a limited time.
Alterations to special offer bookings can end up costing a little more than the original special offer price.
