The Old Observatory Youth Hostel is located in the heart of Qingdao's German old town district, most of the old town heritage sites and attractions are in walking distance. The famous Qingdao beaches can be seen from the hostel, and only takes about 15 mins pleasant walk through the old town alleys, or can be reached easily by bus. Our youth hostel is located in the renovated Qingdao Observatory, originally built by German colonial settlers in 1904, offering splendid views over the bay area and metro skyline.

We have a beautiful park setting in Observatory Park, which is a lovely hill about 70 meters above the sea, taxi could reach to the observatory building directly, or you could take one of the many staircases and walk to the old town in only 3 mins, just consult with our friendly receptionists upon your arrival, you will find that the majority of old town attractions that are listed in your Lonely Planet guide are so close to walk to. Nearby shopping destinations include both shops and department stores along Zhongshan Road, as well as Qingdao's largest open market for seafood, all a five-minute walk from the hostel.
