The Pirate Haus Hostel
We are the friendliest hostel located in the safest neighborhood, the downtown commercial district. Our multilingual staff speak French, German, Arabic, Spanish, Dutch, American English, Australian English, Kiwi English and even English English.
Our hostel is located downtown in the historic district in a building dating from 1915 complete with wood floors and high ceilings.
We have a 8-bed co-ed dorm, and a 7 bed female dorm in addition to 5 private rooms (Pirate Room, Tree Room, Jungle Room, Map Room, and Tropical Fish Room) which can be booked at piratehaus.com. We have a rooftop patio with gas grill, common kitchen with all appliances, common room with DVD/VHS, free high speed internet on our PC's or free all you want encrypted wi-fi.
Our central location means that food and nightlife abound within a short walking distance from the hostel, as well as numerous shops and galleries. We are 1 hour away from Daytona, so if you want to see an event in Daytona (Bike Week, Daytona 500, etc.) but don't want to pay for an overpriced motel there, come stay with us, and we're two hours from the Kennedy Space Centre.
St. Augustine is America's oldest continuously inhabited city. The impressive Castillo de San Marcos has never been taken in war, though the British laid siege to it in 1702 and 1743. The area is brimming with history that comes alive during the recurring re-enactments of pirate raids and both British and Spanish night watches, and the black powder cannon firings at the fort on weekends.
The Colonial Spanish Quarter is a must see for interested students of history. The living historians there re-enact the daily life of St. Augustine in the year 1740, and Friday and Saturday evenings the sound of sea chanteys (Blow the Man Down, etc.) pervades the authentic period tavern where the lovely barmaid Gilley serves up ales and ciders.
The beach is 4 miles away, an easy bike ride, and features the undeveloped shores of Anastasia State Park. Rarely does anyone walk or bike the whole distance to the inlet so chances are that you can find a stretch of beach for your very own.
Our friendly staff will give you a map and tell you about the things worth seeing and perhaps more importantly about the things NOT worth seeing!. If you see no availability on the date you want, please call to make sure.
Please Note : Our normal office hours are 8-10AM and 5-10PM. If you arrive outside of those hours, please give us a call and we will give you the door code, or visit our web-site. NO LOCAL RESIDENTS except Students with current ID! Must have valid DRIVER's LICENSE (State Issued 'ID ONLY' not acceptable). Taxes not included in rates shown.
Stays longer than 14 days may be available on a case by case basis.
No curfew, no lockout, no smoking. Quiet hours 10 PM to 8 AM, however there are many bars within a 100 meter radius. Linen and towels are provided as well as advice on what to do and what to give a miss. If arriving by bus, we're 5 minutes down St. George street, left on Treasury and we're at #32. If you are flying in to Jacksonville, we may be able to give you a ride for about half what you would pay a taxi or a shuttle, so shoot us an email and ask. if staying for longer than 7 days, we can give a significant price break during the off season, however only in person, as we have to make sure we all get along first!

The nearest Greyhound bus station a short 5 minute walk down St. George Street, turn left on Treasury and we're at #32.
Amtrak trains run to Palatka, and the Ride Solution provides transport to St. Augustine at 5PM, you may have to wait a bit in Palatka but the train station is 100 yards from the old downtown area which has a few small diners and some neat thrift shops as well as a pistol range if you want to squeeze off a few shots on a .357 Magnum before catching the shuttle to St. Augustine. Firing lane charges are $20 per hour, ammo and pistol rental charges are extra.
Shuttle services run to the airport and charge about $80. Given enough advance notice and schedule permitting, we may be able to pick you up for a $65 fee (1 hour each direction) If you arrive early enough and money is tight, there is a way to get here for about $5 from the airport, but it will take the better part of a day. Take a city bus to the transit terminal. Transfer to a bus to the Avenues Mall. then take the Sunshine bus (does not run on Sundays) to King Street. Walk to Pirate Haus. Sunshine bus only runs twice a day, so you need to make sure your connections are good.
