1. How to get to Punta del Este from Argentina
You have 3 possibilities: bus, boat/bus and plane.
A. Bus
Buses leave from the Retiro Bus Terminal in Buenos Aires and the trip is about 10h. Now it is possible that this service is not available due to the regular cuts to the International bridges between Argentina and Uruguay.
B. Boat/Bus
This is the most useful combination as you have many choices according your budget. There is a slow boat that goes from Buenos Aires to Colonia (3hs) and a fast boat (1h) and then by bus to Punta del Este (5hs) and also from Buenos Aires to Montevideo with a fast boat (3hs) and then bus to Punta del Este (2hs). The prices go from 50 to 100 dollars.
C. Plane
Airlines fly to Buenos Aires-Montevideo and Buenos Aires-Punta del Este. The flight takes 35 y 40 minutes y costs 80 y 120 dollars respectively leaving from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. When you get to Montevideo you will have to take a bus to Punta del Este (2h).
2. How to get to Punta del Este from Montevideo
From Bus Terminal Tres Cruces of Montevideo you have buses every 30 minutes and the trip takes 2 hs. You can also get the bus at the Carrasco Airport and y leave it at the Terminal of Punta del Este.
3. How to get to Punta del Este from Brazil
You have 2 possibilities: bus, and plane.
A. Bus
From Rio, Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Florianpolis, Porto Alegre o Chuy, there are very good buses, very comfortable and the rates will depend on where you are beginning your trip.
B. Plane
Two companies fly to Montevideo o Punta del Este.
4. How to get to the Backpacker
When you arrive to the Bus Terminal of Punta del Este, you take the 'micro' to La Barra, as soon as you cross the bridge, you get down at the stop n 40. You'll see a yellow backpacker sign at your left, across the street. You take this road (n9) about 500m. straight ahead always following the signs and you'll be here, you'll see the hostel at your left.
Coming from the East, once you pass by La Barra's gas station (Ancap), go straight ahead by Camino Urquiza (that goes to San Carlos' Zoo) 500m. and turn left one block and then right and you'll find us at your left, there are signs along the road so you'll find us easily.
