I was pleasantly surprised upon arriving to see how good this place was, after reading the reviews. I booked a private room, which was more like a B&B room, than a hostel. We had a kitchenette with microwave, fridge and a TV. The room was very spacious too. Location was fine, only a 5 minute walk to the green line tram which takes you straight downtown. Local area is great too, plenty of bars, cafe's etc. As for complaints about it being cold - the thermostat seems to be set that when it's hot it's hot, but then it cuts off for a while and cools down. It COOLS down, it doesn't turn into a freezer like some have suggested. I'd be back there in a flash if I go back to Boston.

No character, staff not helpful. Honestly, spend the extra $15 and stay somewhere with some soul.

Ok, it is cheap, but it should be entirely free for me to go back!we had a pretty bad experience, the room was old and everything (carpet, curtains and blankets) had a horrible smell of cigarettes and dust (mind that I am a smoker!).The bathroom (when working) was dirty and smelly.Ah, it is perfect if you like animals...we were woken up by a mouse on our bed cabinet!I really wouldn't recommend it!!!!

After all of the negative reviews, I was surprised to find that the Farrington was just fine. It's in an old house near a nice little neighborhood with a large variety of restaurants, bars and coffee houses. Some of these are student/hipster places, there are quite a few Asian restaurants, and a fair number of Brazilian establishments. My room and the bathroom were clean, and the bed was comfortable enough for a hotel bed. The hostel as a whole was quiet enough. I didn't have much interaction with the staff, but the interaction I did have was polite and professional. Maybe they've changed ownership or read all of the bad reviews?

It is not at all bad as the some of the other reviews said. I was quite worried to book my accommodation there and I did so because I had no alternative. But it was quite good for the money I spent.

Strange hostel, it could be so much more with just some paint and cleaning. Owner who checked us in seemed stuck in the past..weird guy. Room was very hot, no possibility to open windows..odd place.

Nice hostel, friendly staff. Only under the bed they could clean a little bit more carefully.
