We stayed at the private suites, which is a different building from the dorms... our room was great, it wasn't The Standard, but I really enjoyed how you can still feel how the building was in the 40's-50's which is when I'm guessing it was built originally. our room faced the streets so we had a fun view of SF.

This hostel had a marvelous breakfast, courteous staff, luxurious towels and a fantastic location to all the hip spots in the city. It was a treat to stay here.

Hadn't stayed in a hostel before, and I was very pleased overall. The common areas were well appointed and charming, the kitchen was clean, and who can argue with free breakfast and free Internet! After about 10:00, there were always people around, but it was pretty quiet in the lounge area, which was very nice. I have to say I was disappointed that there weren't in-room lockers for the dorm-style accomodations, so everyday I had to haul my backpack downstairs and across the alley for safe keeping. This was a big room and everyone's stuff was together, so I suppose technically something could be stolen. I think it irked a few staff people that they had to go over there each morning with me. But, I have to say that at no point did I feel unsafe. I could see how some people would be a bit frustrated by a shortage of showers. The entrance is down a wierd little alley off Post and Taylor, which makes it a little bit more difficult to find, but also more charming. Two thumbs up on the whole! Thanks!

The Adelaide is partnered with the Hotel Dakota across the street and we found them both to be top notch. Very clean, extremely friendly staff and the best kitchen we've encountered in a hostel yet. Also a great common room, an extravagantly decorated quiet area (all plush leather sofas etc) and free internet to go with it. Not only that but it's mear minutes away from Union Square and right in the heart of San Francisco! We'd definately recommend it :)
