The free internet was GREAT. There is a great atmosphere about the whole place that you can feel as soon as you check in. Lots of big comfy couches and areas to chill. There were a few seedy areas to pass through as you walk from Union Square to the hostel but the location itself is fabulous. Just a ten minute walk and you are at all the major shopping areas, places to catch the bus, eat out, you name it. There were only two showers and two toilets on my floor but we all managed somehow. :) Id recommend this hostel to anyone.

This is a good place to stay in the downtown area--right near Union Square. There are many stores and restaurants. However, if you want to be in the thick of the trendy neighborhoods (like Haight-Ashbury), this might not be a good choice. A cab ride anywhere is about $15-$20. Personally, I thought it was a good choice for me with the stores (good for my fiance) and there is a killer place for breakfast right across the street (The crepe shop...or something like that). The room was on the 8th floor (of the Dakota Hotel--I had a private), which made for a decent view above the buildings while sitting on the fire escape. Nothing fancy, but did the tick. I enjoyed my stay. If you need a ride to the airport, be sure to ask at the front desk...they will hook you up with a guy in a suit who will be driving a very nice town car...as opposed to a smelly, old cab.

This is a really nice, clean hostel in a great location. Atmosphere is very chilled and laid back. However, if ur looking for a party hostel, this isn't the place as they don't organise any activities etc, if ur looking for a bit of fun check out USA Hostels, if ur lookin for quiet and chilled, this is the place for you.

I enjoyed my stay, but the vagrants constantly took away some of the vacation-feel. I understand, though. Thanks so much! Charles Kaplan

I highly recommend staying here, the building is cool, bathrooms were clean, staff was nice. The location was excellent, just a short walk from the bart/muni and bus stations. Be careful about which side of town you wander on, east of the hostel is where you can find union sqaure and tourist central, and to the west is the (not so) lovely tenderloin district. Keep that in mind when wandering at night exploring bars or whatever. Good hostel, stay here.

Very clean, friendly staff. I was surprised that nothing is kept locked, the front door is always open, and the rooms are not locked even though they could be and you are given a key to them. It wasn't a problem, and the lockers have ample space for all your things, just unusual. Generally very quiet.

Brilliant hostel. Great location and staff. Free breakfast is great and as good as the review states. Free internet and cosy communal areas are just some of the perks of this friendly hostel
