It should be called "Dream on America Hostel" or "Faulty Towers". This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in, we only stayed 1 night out of the 8 we booked. Our first impressions of the rundown building with a tacky poster of the owner did not change once inside. The main door was constantly unlocked, the floors un-even and stair railing cracked and useless. Our room was tiny with a complimentary air con unit jammed in the open window between wood and plastic bags which made it enjoyable to listen to every noise in the surroundings streets all night. The radiator leaked, the sinks and toilets were blocked but a nice note saying there was a plunger handy to unblock them yourself. I would not recommend this hostel to any one, there are better low budget hotels near by for a few dollars more.

I have made reservations for me and my group. We were shocked to hear, that they didn't get the reservation! At the end it turned out, that they did receive the reservation-mail, but they didn't open and read it!!! A very bad surprise, if you're on the way with 10 people! And it wasn't necessary to threaten us with the police, because we didn't do anything wrong, but the owner of the hostel did!!!!

I would recommend this hostel in a heartbeat. There were no problems of any kind, and the location is exellent.

Lou and the rest of the stafff were awesome!!! They were very helpful and friendly. Lou cooked Thanksgiving dinner for all the guests which was great! This was our first trip to New York and staying at American Dream made it all the more enjoyable and affordable. Great bargain for a college student! :) I would definitely stay there again:) **Lou, it might be a good idea to add more electrical outlets to the rooms. Two girls trying to share one outlet was a little rough, but we still managed! Thanks!

Lou's a great guy. He lives up to his mission. There's not much to say about the hostel itself. It it is in prime location for all East Village action. Everything is in walking distance. (I love walking the streets of New York!) The staff lacked personality, but they did make an effort to be helpful. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the hostel for how unkept it appeared to be. But these things are trivial when you go to a hostel instead of a hotel suite. For the price, with a TV to boot, you could do a lot worse.

Carmen y Maitane.

Stayed here for two nights, its a great location, times square, empire state etc are within walking distance. Staff were really helpfull to us and the beds were clean, but.... our room was very cramped and a bit shaby. I was gald I was only staying there for 2 nights.
