We would stay here again. The home-like atmosphere and kitchen gathering area (where we enjoyed the simple but ample breakfasts) created the opportunity for many enjoyable conversations with travelers from around the world. The beds were comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were clean. When a plumbing problem arose, the staff saw that the problem was resolved that afternoon while we were out. Although the building is a bit run down, the atmosphere is welcoming and the needs of the guests are well attended to. My young child particularly enjoyed the parakeets, and as parents , we felt that our children were safe and content . For travellers with a good attitude, this is a place to call "home away from home."

The rooms are really expensive and tiny! The staff was great!

the room should be cleaner because there is a cocroach in our room, which indicate the lack of cleanliness. This could be a health hazard to your guests. In term of transportation service. The blue van company show the lack of customer service and responsibility for customers. There is a lack of timeliness and attention. Therefore, I would recommend that you should terminate your contact with this van company

This is an okay place to stay if you just need a place to sleep. The bathroom & shower always seemed clean --- but the rooms themselves could have been cleaner.

i had a wonderful experience -- so authenic -- so centrally located -- found the $7.00 subway/bus pass and easily found a ride back from anywhere in manhatten -- very welcoming and gracious -- NEXT TIME i'll choose the AMERICAN DREAM HOSTEL -- MM

I thought this place was resonably priced, and was in a great location. But I did find it a little bit dirty and our window was broken so we could hear taxi's honking all night long. -- Not good when staying in New York City! All in all I would recommend it to a budgeted traveller who doesn't care about how good the decor is.

The only thing I thought was odd about the Hostel was how poorly they have maintained the property seeing the amount of patrons they clearly have on a daily basis. The carpeting throughout the building needs to be set a fire in the street because it's a health hazard outbreak ready to explode!

All fine... the shared bathroom is the only little problem... but the staff is ok!

We stayed in New York at the American Dream Hostel for 3 nights during our trip back home to India from Dallas. For the price they charge, I felt that the place could have been somewhat better equipped and furnished. The carpetting is quite dilapidated and the rooms are very basic. Our room had a hospital-like feel to it which doesn't make you feel unconfortable at first glance. We had to request a change in rooms on our first night 'coz our window was blocked by a wall. But the second room did not have any drapes or blinds for one of the windows and we had to use one of our towels to get some privacy when the lights were on. The shared bathrooms however, were mostly always clean and there wasn't a queue lined up every morning. The kitchen was the highlight of the place though. It's neat and well stocked. The breakfast was wholesome and you get your daily dose of cereal / oats and toast and boiled eggs. Recommended only if you're looking for a place only to crash at during a hectic visit to NYC!

Very friendly people and cosy atmosphere, but the rooms are extremely small and some of them very hot (despite air condition).
