Despite the cheesy name, this is a great, cheap, clean, central, safe place to stay. We were looking for somewhere more private than a hostel (ie didn't want to stay in a dorm) but with a communal feel. This place is GREAT value for money and the best (cheap) place I've stay in New York so far. only problem is kitchen is a bit small - but you're always out, so who cares??

Although I found the hostel relatively clean and safe, its location is not ideal to most activities in the uptown area. This made getting to and from the area a bit of an ordeal. However overall we felt safe and cared for.

the front door was always open , anyone could come and go. it would have been quite easy for someon to come in from of the street and take the keys as there was often nobody at reception. it was warm but wndows didnt open and no ventilation. the furniture was of a poor standard.no cupboard in the room, could not hang clothes up.the curtains kept falling down. we saw cockroaches in the toilet on the second floor. the staff were all polite and friendly

We have had a nice stay at American Dream Hostel. You should not expect anything special concerning interior design - there is none! In the rooms only beds, nothing on the walls, poor carpeting, holes here and there. But clean and relatively cheap. A place to meet all different kinds of people who either can´t or choose not to spent their money on fine and expensive hotels. Wonderfull kitchen for "make-your-own-breakfast". We could have been without, though, the 3 cockroaches that we met on our way! They were not very big!

Very old building but kept very clean. Private rooms were tiny but fine. Very noisy due to vacant block at the back - take ear plugs! Great location!

It was too noisy from the noise of the streets, but I enjoyed my stay! The breakfast is great.

The hostel was very welcoming and went above the call of duty to make sure we enjoyed our stay.

Toilets and bathroom OK but rather poor cleanliness in rooms. TV in room was unexpected!
