So far out of all the hostels we've stayed at Base Wellington was definitely the worst. We booked online but had tons of problems checking in and had to wait. The kitchen and bathrooms weren't clean and there are no ovens in the kitchen. The no alcohol rule kind of sucks to can't even have a beer or a glass of wine with dinner without getting evicted. When we got to the room one of the beds wasn't made. I could go on an on but there's no point. Bottom line is don't get fooled by the ritzy image

Hi Mac Wow, we definitely did not manage to meet your expectations. I am interested to know what the “tons of problems checking in” was about. Having to wait? Did you happen to check in when a bus arrived at the hostel? Yes about that “no alchohol ban” this ban came about due to people getting drunk in their rooms and putting themselves and other guests at risk. We have had people party in their rooms/dining area, which has ended in damaged property, people falling/being pushed down stairs, people pushed through windows and people trying to access rooms of other guests (to list a few incidents). Most of these incidents have ended with some form of injury (some minor some major) to which the hostel became liable for and has been accused for lack of security to our guests. With incidents such as this we had to react and ensure guest safety was a number one priority hence our “no-alcohol” ban. We are mindful that not everyone drinks to excess and causes these incidents, however, a decision had to be made with regards to alcohol in the hostel and the “no-alcohol” policy came into affect. Obviously we have our Basement Bar which is open from 6pm which is an alternative to drinking in the rooms/dining area.
