This place is a no frills kind of place. There isn't much to do at the hostel, but the location close to a lot of places. I've stayed here 3 times. Awesome place, close to so many things. Clean. They upgraded me to a 8 person room instead of the 10 for free. Staff is very nice. Would definitely stay here again!

I had a great experience here. It's really nicely located. Close to times square and some of the hipper going out neighbourhoods of Manhattan. It's noisy, but if you don't like noise, please stay away from manhattan!

Staff was courteous and helpful. The decor was sort of funky and sort of hip. Nice patio. Water was slow to warm. The room temperature was difficult to control. Very basic but clean. Great value for the price.

Great hostel! Clean, comfy and staff very friendly. Location is fantastic just one block from madison square garden and the subway. I had no problems what so ever! Would recommend to anyone, including my best friend!

Much better for $40 a night than expected for anything in New York. Rooms were attractive and clean. Staff was a little brusque at times, but helpful overall. Would definitely recommend to others.

I was looking for a one night stop en route to another destination and Chelsea Star Hotel was perfect for what I needed! It's only 2 blocks from Penn Station and was very clean (bathrooms were in great condition - best i've seen in a hostel!). Not really good to meet people but as I was looking for a quiet (ish) place this suited me fine. Would stay again.

It is kind of far from stuff but taking the subway is no problem. The beds were very un-comfortable and squeaked really loud if you moved at all. the room was small and they have a lot of beds packed into them with no lockers to lock anything up. you can rent a locker and buy towels there but they really don't provide you with anything extra. some of the staff is rude but there was one guy who was nice and helpful. it's not that bad of a place, but i've seen better.

very congested. I have stayed in other hostels in Manhattan, but other than location it has worse facilities. For 10 people, there is only one washroom and shower. Would not go there again

I was very surprised as how clean and nice looking the hostel was. I was at other NY hostels before and this one is by far the best one! The staff was more than friendly and helpful, the room was small but very clean and cute, we even had our own bathroom (8-bed room) and it was very clean (except when some other ppl staying in the same room really messed it up) but the next day it was clean again. Very happy with this choice, will visit again!

Location and hostel were great. Only downfall was the rooms didnt have lockers, so you couldnt lock your stuff up. Also there wasnt really a kitchen, and they only had 2 computers. Otherwise a great hostel to stay.
