the place is very close to the MSG (madison square garden) and thats the best thing of this hostel, the location. the aspect of the hostel is bad when you look it from the street, when I got there there was an asian guy in the reception of the hostel who was very very rude, I thought that maybe he was in a bad mood, but I found out later that all of us (i mean the people in the room) we agreed that he is so rude, he works there at noght I think, hopefully he's not working there anymore jajaja, the rest of the people of the staff are hispanic and they are kind and respectful people, the place is very clean and I had no troubles at the time of taking a shower, the subway station is 2 blocks away so its easy to move around the city , theres a Tourist Info point at Penn Station which is in the base of the MSG, its close to the Empire state , Manhattan Mall (where u can eat cheap) and Macys, its a good location, at the time of arriving you are suppose to pay all the money. here in the system they said that i was supposed to pay like 145 dollars which turned into 210 dollars , so expect to pay the TAXES!!! its like 32 dallars per night, anyway it is still a good deal, especially for the location of the place . Just in case the hotel is in Chelsea which is a gay neighbourhood and theres a gay bar on 24 st and 8th ave. the hotel is in 8th ave and 30 th st. I met nice people in the hotel. I recommend this hostel, is a good deal.

I really enjoyed my stay at the chelsea star, the staff were friendly and helpfull all the time giving you help with any questions i had, the location is excellent although you are not right in the heart of it all you are ten minute walk MAX to get into the heart of the city and its not to far from the shopping on 5th Avenue. Put it this way madison square gardens is one block away!!! I would recommend it to anyone.

I stayed there in february and it was really cosy inside the rooms. the location is excellent and you can walk almost everywhere. I would stay there again.
We stayed there during february and it was really cold outside but they heated the rooms really good.The door from the room we had doesn't close and so we got an privat room for the last day, because some of the other people in our room had problems with that.

Great location, helpfull staff when I asked for information. The dorm and attatched bathroom were clean, but the matress could be better. For 30US this is an excellent choice!
there was an issue with our reservation but the staff was cool...especially Lenny...and got things sorted out. If you just need a place to lay your head, this place is good

People at reception were really friendly and helpful. AMAZING location. only problem was that our room was used as a walk-through so staff didnt have to walk round.

Great place, very clean. There is a very small common area, but there is an outside terrace and that's pretty phat. Come hear when the weather is warm.
