A nice hostel, i'd recommend anyone to stay there, the only problem is that you have to book it in advance, because otherwise they are all sold out!

Not a bad place, especially in terms of location - you don't have to pay for the subway as it is close to the MSG, Empire State Building, Penn Station, Times Square. And I think it is the cleanest hostel I've stayed at. But there is one thing that I wasn't quite happy with. According to the cofirmation e-mail I was to pay $51.29 on arrival, but I was charged more than $60. The receptionist told me it was a refundable deposit and I would have those 10 bucks back when checking out. But on the day of my checking out there was a different receptionist, who told me I might have misunderstood something. So, I donated 10 bucks to the hostel though I didn't really want to.

In my domitory, there was a rat. -_ - Maybe, rats? I'm not sure about that. Anyway its location and staff were great. If you care focusing on those two points, Chelsea Star will be suitable choice for you.

Overall a good hostel. I marked the staff as being 'poor' because the cleaning staff threw away a couple of our things because they weren't close enough to our beds. There's a sign warning about that, which we didn't see. Otherwise the staff was good. And they did reimburse us for the our nights there, because of the stuff being thrown away. Other than that, I would recommend staying here. It's clean and you can't beat the location!

Not the place to go if you just want to hang out at the hostel and meet people there, but, despite the wacky tacky colours, extremely well run, organized, friendly and helpful hostel that is very clean and seems to attract respectful, serious people as well. Will stay here again in a heartbeat.

The Chelsea Star has two buildings side-by-side. I was in the one that hasn't been branded and doesn'y have a common area. I suspect the original building (with all the facilities in it, interent, common room etc..) would be more enjoyable.

Great hostel all round. Rooms are a little crowded with the bunks plus backpacks but on the whole it's ok. Fantastic location if you're planning on using Amtrak trains around the US - it's very close to the main station so it's perfect if you have an early train to catch or arrive to NY late at night.

Except for one mouse I saw coming out of my bag, the hostel was very clean. Great location!
