It was an OK hostel, not bad, but I will probably find a different place to stay at in Paris next time around.

The people who own the hostal is too concentrated about making money. If they can, they use the tv-room as a sleepingroom, and that's not acceptable. The advetising for the hostal doesn't keep up with the real conditions. They say that they have a bar, they don't. They say they have a tv-room. They dont't.

any bad reviews you have read about this place were obviously put there by little princes and princesses, the place is fine, good location friendly staff, great little court yard for meeting people and for this price i wouldnt stay anywhere else!

It all started when we got to our room on the first day/afternoon. Everything looked fine and it was what we expected for a hostel. The morning after we had arrived we noticed the shower handle that controls the water temperature was broken off in our private room. When we brought this to the attention of the staff they said they knew about it but couldn't do anything to help us. They suggested we shower in the common area, which was fine but there was a line up and we had to wait for about 45-60 to get in. This only slowed our process of getting out to see the city and sites. (No compensation or apology!) After we had the chance to shower we spoke to the staff and they offered to change our room for us. We agreed as long as it was a private room again with a shower. Agreed. We went out that day and when we returned around 7pm there was a maintenance person in our new room who had torn the entire bottom out from underneath the shower. We asked what the problem was and he said there was a drainage problem and that he would be done in an hour. We figured no problem, we'd go for dinner and come back. We came back and he wasn't there anymore but all his tools the mess on the floor still was. This staff member had apparently burst a pipe while he was working and had now created a flood to the people downstairs. By the time he had fixed the flood and decided to come back to our room to collect his tools and not clean up his mess was 12:45am.
The only bright spot to our stay was that we met some really good people that were staying there as well. When it was time to checkout we figured that we'd just chalk that one up as a story to tell anyone that would be travelling to Paris.

All I can say about Friend's Hostel is that I had a bed. It was not clean, it must be located right next to the police station because I heard sirens all night. Also, it advertises as having the bathrooms in the rooms-- and it did have a shower (dirty) and a sink, but the actual toilets were located in the hallway in rooms that didn't have sinks. It was a pretty depressing place to stay, although convenient enough to the metro.
