Rebecca was a complete darling and was a pleasure meeting her after we corresponded via email for a bit. Actually everyone at the front desk were super helpful and great to hear some fellow aussie accents amongst them. This was my first ever hostel experience and having heard alot about the GTortoise had great expectations. Must I say in all seriousness, I had my doubts but you guys came through and have no hesitation to recommend GT to family friends and travellers alike. this hostel is really good. they really look after you and give you breakfast everyday, good food 3 times a week and free thing to do daytime and they take you out on a night. a very good hostel recommend it to anyone

THis place is awesome with lots of cool things planned and people to meet. Lots of international people were there. True, it is by some strip clubs, but the location is not seedy at all - just a bit of San Francisco character! Highly reccomended.
Excellent hostel. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. And plenty of private bathrooms. Good common area downstairs and a travel agency geared to backpackers.

We had a great time. I would highly recommend the private rooms we had 136A and it was close to the kitchen and bathroom which was more good than bad. The kitchen is excellent has everything you could need to make some great meals. 24 hour beer store down the Street! We Met some really cool travellers and are looking forward to going back. Great, free food on Monday night, free beer & open mic night Tuesday. This was my first visit to a hostel and while talking to others, they say this place will spoil you. It has a nice atmosphere and is a great place to meet new people
