This is an unusual place. It's nice for one or maximum two nights, I wouldn't recommend it if you are expecting too much. The location is good. There is a lot of noise, especially at night 'cause the beds are old and made of iron. The cells are hot due a poor ventilation. The staff is nice and they try to help you.

We had a great stay, loved the building and most of the staff. We did however have something taken from our room which was upsetting but our own fault for leaving it out. Great hostel! But remember to use the security lockers!

WOW! I honestly felt like I was in a hotel. they have a full breakfast menu in the mornings, AMAZING security features for the building. an amazing common area with about 5 leather couches, a new flat screen TV with DVD and VHS player. they had binders filled with things to do in Ottawa. as well this Hostel is located across the street from the Rideau Centre (big shopping mall, that also serves as a bus station), and is only about a 5-10min walk from Parliament.
Beds are a bit squeaky but

Really enjoyed staying at the Ottawa Jail Hostel, it was very clean, comfortable and unique. Staff were very friendly and there was always something to do. Right downtown, we walked everwhere. Would definitely stay there again next time in Ottawa.

Very disappointed that additional costs were charged without prior notice or disclosure at time of booking. Cost increase required emergency out of town arrangements that were an inconvenience to my benefactor. Please clearly indicate that HI membership is required to stay at your hostels on the web page where bookings are done and indicate the cost. It is very unfair to a traveller on a limited budget to spring a surprise like this at the eleventh hour. I would really appreciate if you woul

Some femlae guests were quite rude, talking loudly in the halls late at night. The hostel should strongly emphasize the quiet rule after midnight.
I understand coming in late you make some noise, but just up and chatting is unnecessary. Couldn't they just go into a common area instead of in the bedroom cells/hallway? Staff should be more aware of this issue.

I have been to different hostels around the world. But seriously, Jail hostel has been the most unique one.
