While the location is far from the city center, it is close to the Westbahnhof, and with a Vienna card, everything is easily and quicky accessible through Vienna's excellent public transportation system.
The accomodatios are actually apartments, so you have access to a kitchen and washing machine. The Internet is free. The building is a bit run-down by American standards, but it certainly has character, though I'm not sure how to properly describe that character.
The staff is excellent. They were extremely helpful, generous, and accomodating. In particular, the owner (?)/manager(?), Franz, was a godsend. He did everything he could to make my stay pleasant. I have only superlatie things to stay about the staff.
I enjoyed staying here, and I would recommend it for budget-conscious travelers.

We liked the location a lot - close to train station and main drag - easy to get around. Clean, nice kitchen, friendly staff. More of apartment than hostel - so would recommend to families or those looking for something quiet. Thanks!

A terrific hostel. More like your own apartment for a few days. If you are planning on staying a week or two i highly recommend happy hostel as a comfortable home base. Much better than staying in a hostel and much cheaper than any hotel. Plus the fully supplied kitchen makes dining a little cheaper. And the private bathroom is a plus for any budget traveler. Great place.
