Considering the prices of hostels in NY, the YMCA was excellent value. The location was good as we were only 5 mins from Central Park by subway and 20 - 30 mins from Times Square, the Empire State Building and downtown Manhattan. The building was extremely secure and we felt safe the whole time we were there. The room was a little cramped, but very good value for the price, all things considered.

not the best place to go when visiting new york, but i can say that the staff was really helpful, it has a subway station just a block away, but the rooms werent as clean as I expected.

They messed up our room order but still wouldn't give us a refund. Out of four bathrooms, only one worked and it didn't even lock.
Wold recommend to anyone seeking a friendly place, close to subway, at an unbeatable price for single rooms. Not extremely clean, but OK. All staff is very nice and helpful. Bonus: kitchenette with microwave on each floor. It's been a good start to my time in NY!
Staff - especially during weekdays - very nice and helpful, while the level of cleanliness was more average: hair from former guests around the room, etc. We had access to one of four bathrooms on our floor, the most busy one, so often had to wait a long time to use the bathroom while the adjoining ones were empty... But overall a nice two-week stay - we wouldn't mind coming back!

I thought EVERYTHING and EVERYONE was GREAT! I definately plan to stay here again and again when I come back to NYC. I can't rave enough. Just having a TV, refrid, computer cafe and laundry in the building not to mention the #2 train down the block was SO convenient. The staff was very professional and kind. It was the best experience ever! Even the housekeeping staff was busy doing their thing everyday cleaning up and making sure we had what we needed.
