It's in Harlem people. Unless you've experienced it all before you won't feel safe at night until you're off the street. Highbridge house is affordable but as clean as my apartment was in college. Danny was the guy working when I went and he was polite and helpfull. He gets top marks. The downer to this place would be the appearance. You feel like its a dive as soon as you find it. But that's not why you travel right? There is no security for your personal belongings other than a door kn

This is a really nice place to stay if you are in NY. Its a bit far from everything but there is a pool thats free right to the hostel. The staff are very friendly and they have big rooms.

What a great hostel! Much much better than the last hole I stayed at and only slightly more dollars. Well worth it. Staff are really friendly. The rooms are clean and tidy. Would be nice if they offered a free breakfast and free tea and coffee like others but on the whole really good.

I would not stay here again. I did not realize we would be staying in a hallway where everyone walked by. We had to wait to get in the bathroom to change clothes. Our neighbors came in at late hours, were noisy and often left their door open with the lights in our eyes disrupting our sleep several times during the night.There was no privacy and I did not feel secure in our persons or belongings.

Nice, quiet hostel. About 15 Min by express train (Metro < 5 minutes walk) to Manhattan center. Staff is very kind. Negativ: Internet is not for free. After all I can recommend it.

I went to the highbridge house with my girlfriend and we had an awesome stay. Dont let anyone fool you: harlem is a fine place and Highbridge is placed near subway stations and the 125th shopping street. So I'll highly recommend that you stay here the next time you visit new york. You wont regret it. Oh, and the staff is the greatest! Thanks for taking us out that night. -Karsten and Anne-Sofie

a bit chaotic but very friendly staff, clean rooms and bath room, close to subway, not the best surrounding (Harlem) but in daylight things doesn't look so nasty. At night you should take a taxi... quiet house with nice people close to a park/starbucks/grocery/bank.
