This place is right in the middle of everything. We had a great view but it was very loud. The staff was great! Will come again.

I stayed at this hostel for three nights with my friend in the beginning of March 08 and loved it! The place was so artistic and beautiful. The location was also very central - Gran Via is the Oxford Street of Madrid. Room was clean and had a great view of Gran Via. The owners do not speak a word of English but are so welcoming and sweet that I didn't even mind having to gesture wildly. It isn't the place to be if you want to have fun and meet new people but if you want to stay somewhere with very good security, a welcoming atmosphere, privacy, a central location and an artistic building - this is the place. I highly recommend - you will not regret it!

Good location, easy access to all areas. Room small but exceptionally clean and felt secure with a safe on the wall (50c charge per use). Some noise, mostly from outside the building but nothing too bad. Overall all offering very good vale and to be recommended.

We had an excellent time at Hostal Santillan. The building had a lot of character and was close to everything we did in Madrid. I would definately recommend it. It was a bargain!

Unfortuntely, my room was quite near the lift, so very noisy all night long, also some there seemed to be decorating going on throughout the night - power tools very noisy. Water pressure sometimes too low to be able to take a shower. Very disappointing.

We only stayed here for one night, but this hostel wasn't very central, but it was very close to a metro station. The room was very clean, though it was a bit dark. It really has no breakfast, only a vending machine, but it's very cheap. Nice staff. I would recommend it for a short stay, but don't come here if you're looking for a "backbacker's hostel" ambiance.

Excellent location, friendly staff, great place! Would definately go there again! On the seventh floor - our room had a window onto a shaft in the middle of our building and scared the c##p out of me - but very cool tho!
