This hostel was pretty decent. Good kitchen facilities. About a 30 min. walk to Venice beach. It's in a little bit of a shady area. You wouldn't want to be walking alone late at night. It could use a few repairs to doors and maybe some better bunk beds. The mattresses didn't quite fit properly on the beds and wooden bunks aren't such a great idea in a hostel. But otherwise it was pretty good. I was only there for one night so I didn't really socialize that much so I didn't quite get the whole hostel experience.

I am a repeat customer at this Hostel. The staff are warm, friendly, and accommodating to special requests, and they treat me better than the people at FOUR POINTS SHERATONS when I have to travel for work. So, bravo guys, and keep up the good work!

There are people living in this hostel as a permanent home. It was quite dirty and the staff was often drunk, but for $15 you get what you pay for. Respectfully, Mark

Many of the staff were out of work actors and foreigners who only worked to subsidize their weekly rents. Most inquiries were met with impatience and rudeness. There was an element of xenaphobia and clanishness amoungst them. I almost felt guilty for having a private room. If it weren't for Klaus the manager, who was a perfect gentleman and the close proximity to the beach, my opinion might have been a little more negative. Reasonably priced, with great location, LA is big enough to make your own friends outside the hostel. 2 stars

I don't think it's right for hostels to say that they don't allow Americans to stay in their hostel. I like to know what laws say you can denie me from staying there? I thimk I may sue them.

I had no complaints. It was farther from lax airport than I imagined it, but closer than most if not all other hostels, and it was not difficult or expensive to get there by bus once I asked a local person what buses to take. thanks for a good stay, hostel california!

It's a great location, but when I was there, everyone in the common area seemed either depressed or unconscious. Maybe it was just like that the day I was there...
