Kabata hostel was a good place to stay for the san jose leg of my 3 week costa rica vacation. The hostel is walkable into town, and the neigborhood was decent. I never saw the free breakfast that started at 7am, I generally left the hostel at 8am or a little before. I paid 11k colones ($20) for pickup at the airport. In retrospect, I could have taken a metered cab for 8k ($15). The driver (who is hired by the hostel) was hard to find in the sea of taxi drivers bombarding to service you. I did m

I was a decent place, but I wish they would\'ve had convenient lockers to use.

All in all, it was a nice place. Hot water was working and the guests were fun but there was just a stench of cat urine from the cats roaming around.

Our stay was OK. The people were nice, the owner gave us good recommendations on what to do with our day (Highly recommend white water rafting on the Paracua river(sp?)). However, It was very noisy throughout the night I must say. The bed squeaked every time you rolled over, you could hear people in every room, and we thought we heard a dying cat at about 2am. Basically it is just like living in a dorm, the cleanliness is like a dorm too. Location was good, easy walk to anything.

Good enough for San Jose since we were just passing through. Helpful staff, clean rooms, and free internet.

Kabata is a wonderful home while you visit San Jose! The staff is very helpful and supportive. They help you plan you trips and will call to make reservations. This is especially helpful if your Spanish isn't as good as you would like. They have cats too, which makes the place even better. I loved my stay and would definitely go back!
