it was all good, however i stayed in a four bed room with three other guys.. which seems abit wrong as im a female.. fears of getting raped and pillaged were never far from my mind! (im obviously ok however!)

M&J's was a great place to meet people, and the time I spent outside of my room in the hostel was the most enjoyed! The bathrooms are not so great, but I stayed in a 6 bed dorm and it seemed better than the 10 bed dorms below. You have to leave your luggage in your room, so I suggest having locks....I had no problems but I just felt better with a little of my own security. Strike up a convo in the kitchen or common room and make some great friends.... I was travelling alone and from the first night found some great ppl to spend my time with!! Overall, I would recommend this hostel!

1 Security was the main problem. one key per room meant that all members of the room had access to your gear, as well as any other person that may be unknown to the group could enter the room once a member had opened the room. Members would have no way of knowing whether this was a bone fidi new member or otherwise. This would be solved by having lockers available or a security passdoor system
2 Cleanliness of shared bathrooms and toilets were below par, water on the floor leaky taps and grime.
3 fire safety needs some thought.
Bedding and sheeting was actually very good, super clean and confortable.

This hostel despite its excellent position near the station has unhelpful staff and looks like it hasn't been cleaned for months. One guy even fell off the bunk bed because they were so uncomfortable. Have no idea how this hostel rated in the top ten!

I loved the flexibility of this place. No stupid inflexible rules. Eg. they let you stay in bed while they clean the rooms. A great place to meet people. Enjoyed my stay there!

M&J has a wonderful, supportive staff. The place is well kept. Only a couple of problems - got there in the morning and couldn't actually get into my room until 3 in the afternoon, so that sucked. Also, had some food taken from the fridge that was clearly marked. But if you can deal with those things, you will like this place. If you're a guy, expect the bathroom to be slightly dirtier than the women's, and the lights are not that great in the loo.
