Really nice place to stay as a single traveler. Lots of friendly people and nice staff make it a good hostel. Good luck figuring out the stupid key system, though.

Everything is perfect and they have thought of EVERYTHING....There are electronic lockers included, food, clean, clean, clean.... electronic doors, elevator... game room, plasma TV ... very social and very very clean!! I´m american, and this is clean to American 4 star hotel standards!

we had a 4-bed room. never again!
there is no window to the outside from those 7m² rooms. the little window goes to the inside court, which is often closed through a glass roof. no circulating air, it does definitely not smell like teen spirit! the whole court actually stinks! needless to say, the AC cools the air that is inside (if you happen to meet the right guy at the reception to turn it on, the bald one does not know how it works), but there is no oxygen from outside here either...

Great location and security. Walking distance to Sol and most other main sites in Madrid. The bar downstairs is a great place to meet new people and hang out with cheap beer! Toilets are generally acceptable, although the showers can do with a little more scrubbing. Bedrooms are clean and beds are comfortable, but the keys for room doors and lockers can be a little easier to use(they use some RFID technology). One has to fumble with them for a good 5-10 minutes before the door actually opens. People generally overcome the problem either by climbing through the room windows or sticking their hands through the windows to open the door. Overall, pleasant stay and would recommend.

Strange sharing a bathroom with 6 strangers in such close quarters... but overall a comfortable atmosphere. The location is perfect, close to the city center of Madrid, shopping, sites, and nightlife-but on a quieter street. A major plus is the high speed internet connection on new computers, instead of the ancient ones usually found at hostels. Also, I a traveled alone and I felt safe all the time, even sleeping with my window wide open.

The staff was extremely helpful, and security was amazing. At no point did i feel worried about any of my belongings, as they were stored in a special electronic locker in my room that only I had a key to.
Just a note, the 'gym' that Mad Hostel has is actually a 10'x5' room with a treadmill and excersize bike.
