I wouldn't stay there again. Bathrooms were not clean, windows almost falling apart. The atmosphere was not very welcoming.

Make sure you ask for room with a/c! Staff was nice in updating my room, but I did see them be quite rude to others. Room was stuffy and not that clean. Location is in a shady part of town and you will need to take the train to most places.

Although the YMCA is in an excellent location close to the "T" in the Back Bay area in Boston the atmosphere was very down-at-heel. No common areas where you could get together with other travelers and the staff were not very knowledgeable about the local area or the city in general. The room was hot and stuffy at night (summertime) with just one light over a desk (maybe designed more for students at the nearby Northeastern University).

Room was really small and looked like an prisoncell. There is no fun at all in this hostel and common room. In the morining by checking out, the lady at the front desk made a mistake by thinking that we checked out too late. But instead of mentioning this normally she was really rude lalking too us in a decending way. After she found out that her time was wrong she didn't even said sorry! Wouldn't go to this hostel again and would definitly not recommend this hostel to others.

Only complaint--no A/C. It can get VERY warm in these rooms in the summer.

Great building, basic rooms but clean enough. Nice staff and brilliant location - will definately recommend to friends and we'll be staying there when we visit Boston again.

A fair walk from the city centre but manageable. Very clean rooms, but a bit soulless. Good value for money.

The only problem, a big problem for me, is that I can't sleep on a rubber mattress, regardless of linen. I was tossing and turning, hot and uncomfortable; I slept with the window open - security sure, I was on the 7th floor. Aside from the mattress it was clean, doors close a little heavy, and above a light city din, the only annoyance with the window open is the trolley on the street below. I need to find a method for sleeping on a rubber mattress, because I plan to return. Its affortable, convenient, clean, bathroom clean, no one slams doors - doors slam themselves.
