Everything was good there during my stay, except that I was asked to switch rooms on my 2nd day to accommodate a group of 4 people that was coming in. Even being an extensive traveler, I still needed directions to find the hostel.
Very nice hostel. Pretty, reasonably quiet, nice staff, great free breakfast. Scary to walk in from the BART at night (I didn't); not so much dangerous as alarming. There is an incessant theme on the internet that this hostel overbooks, but they didn't overbook me. Confirm your reservation a few days before arriving maybe? The manager didn't pick me up at the airport. He might perhaps had done so if we'd made a firm prior agreement, but now I will never know. Don't rely on his services. For $25.00 it is too much to ask, but he should stop advertising free airport pickup for the sake of consistency.

Great hostel und superb location!!! The bathrooms were just being remodeled (in April 08) and super new and clean. The hallways were kinda messy though. Breakfast is ok with toast, bagels, Nutella, jam, and plenty of coffee (would be even better if it included some juice and fruit). I felt pretty secure because I locked my valuables in a locker in the hall. The only thing I can truly criticize were the old windows (ours would not stay open) and lack of air-conditioning.

I didn't like the few hidden costs, like towels not provided, 10$ deposit in addition of prepayement for reservation + soaps etc. Not keen on letting people printing for free though. This said I would definitly recommend to anyone that doesn't get annoyed by people invading your private sphere. It feels like home as soon as you are open-minded, receptive and looking for new friends. I loved the fact that activities were proposed on a daily base.
