Egypt over all was very deceiving from the actual research online as well as books. The culture shock really set in upon my arrival. When I arrived to the hostel, both the journey and the hostel was incredible fithy dirty. Actually, the hostel was as clean as it could be for being located in an abandonded building that looked like homeless people would be surviving. Meramees Hostel came highly recommended to us, and for good reason. The location was great, walking distance to the Cairo Museum and lots of great shops, and only a short cab ride away from anything else. The staff was so friendly and did everything possible to make our trip everything that we expected and more.
