No complaints about this place, location excellent, security OK, the staff were very helpful, maybe a little bit pricy for a hostel but I guess is difficult to find a hotel this nice for that price... I recommend this place 100%

Very nice hostel! It definitely has its quirks - the most obvious of which is the fact that the place issues NO keys (no room key, no outer entrance key, etc.). However, when asked about this, the staff explained, quite correctly, as it turns out, that they don't NEED keys. Indeed, the hostel's security is superb; large outer doors plus a gate that can only be opened electronically from the inside, etc. And, as they say, location, location, location. This place is literally a two minute walk from the Duomo in one direction, and a four minute walk from the Academy Gallery in the other. Smack dab in the city center, a mere 10 minute walk from the train station, with free internet access, solid staff and security, I'd say that the Academy Hostel is basically one of the best hostels that I've stayed in. (Oh, and, in a city literally crawling with tourists, it seemed like the hostel was also calmingly peaceful and uncrowded - I even got a four bed room to myself the first night! I don't know if it's like that all the time, or if it gets crowded sometimes, but it might be something to consider...).

AMAZING Location. Literally right next to the Duomo and a couple blocks from the David. I loved everything about my stay, except for a funny smell in my room that I couldn't, for the life of me, pinpoint. It very well could have been me though. Two thumbs up to this hostel.
