The hostel is under major construction with no working elevator, this was not mentioned when I booked my stay. In addition, there were glue traps under the beds, really not sanitary. The staff gave us the wrong key and then left on break and we could not get in for over an hour. In addition, when he came back on, he switched the key to the correct key without telling me and tried to say I opened the door incorrectly. I didn't comment on this, but the second key I was given was gold, the first key I had was silver.... I would not stay here again.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The place was under construction, there were spiders in the room, it smelled horrible, there were hardly any young people staying here...mostly people in their 40s and 50s who seemed to be homeless. And it was in a shady part of town. The reception desk attendant wasn't even present when we wanted to check in (around 7pm) so we ended up wasting 1.5hrs just waiting for them. Its definitely not worth the money!

They advertise as Wheelchair accessible. So often I find this to be problematic. The "Y" was excellent. Room doors that stay open as you enter. Enough space next to door to reach and open door. Room to turn around in doubles. Could back into sinle and go out frontwards and it worked fine. All this and and accessible roll in shower. Turn around room in kitchen, access to office and internet room. Staff helped me move what needed moving in my room. Only quibble is laundry room requires accistance to get into. Folks happy to help (staff and guests). All in all fabulous for a wheelie! Suggest staying here as Bay Area base. Easy access to San Francisco and more on Bart (Easily accessible, very fast underground).

This was probably one of the worst places I've ever been to! The staff is lousy, hallways and rooms are smelly, the place is very noisy, and DIRTY above all, sheets, towels and not to mention the restrooms! Strongly NOT recommend to anyone.

When I got there, I had my doubts. The last few hostels I stayed at were run down, and not very pleasant to stay at. However, this hostel was decent. Hostel was clean, bathrooms on 3rd floor were clean, also the shower area was clean. The bed was a little noisy, as was the noise from the outside. No fan in room, so bring your own, unless you want to hear people walking by outside, and that annoying beep coming from the crosswalk sign for the disabled. The check in was a little long, the front desk clerk was on break when I got there, but was quick and painless once they arrived. Internet was accessible and free, and the location was perfect, five minutes from the BART station. People very pleasant. Would stay there again on my next trip to the East Bay. Will recommend to all friends. Please do not use my name on the website, under review, you may use my comments, just not name please.
