I booked my hostel stay through Hostels.com, however they did not forward my reservation to you. I would recommend that you stop using Hostels.com as a forwarding agency because they charged me a processing fee while they did not do a single thing for me. I will not be using their services ever again.

Balaton is certainly worth seeing! However, if you have other place to go than Szantod, please do it. Most of the nature around is private, we didn't manage to find a place to go into the forest. there are just two free access beaches with loads of people - the rest of the lake shore is private!! If you decide to come to Szantod anyway - make sure you go to the tourist information first (opposite to the hostel). Getting to the hostel is not as easy as it seems for a person who has never been there and doesn't speak Hungarian or German. we were lucky that some older guy gave us a lift from the train station. The hostel itself is not bad but certainly remembers the Hungary's previous regime. good advice - for the hostel pay in the currency you paid booking at the Hostelworld - if you want to pay in HUF they will offer you an absoulutely not good exchange rate. Don't hope for the fast internet and you may take with you your own towels as the ones at Hostel Rev forgot how to absorb water long time ago. But the breakfast is very good and you can eat as much as you want :) and all in all the price of teh hostel is affordable :) Directions from the train - take Vajda Janos street until crossroads with Moricz Zsigmond Utca were you turn left (to Moricz Z. street itself). Take a long walk striaght until crossroads with Tihany Utca (Csokonai Ter) were you turn left and the hostel is on your right hand side (very close to the ferry to Tihany). All in all the place is good for a one day chill out :)

Good place to stay for it's price. Staff was very nice. Approx. 3 km from the Szantod railway station and 15 minutes walk to free beach. Only 2 good restaurants nearby. If you're interested in clubs and saturated night-life it's better to stay at Siofok.

There just 2 restaurants and a few shops. No place to party. The beaches are with grass and 15 minutes walk minimum. When you have a car it's no problem. You can travel to the nearest places like SIOFOK. (12 km) The owners are VERY nice. They will help you with every question. So that was not a problem. If you want a place were you can do alot don't book this hostel. It's more a hostel (we think) for familys with childeren...

This is exactly what you would expect from a hotel. It lacks the fun atmosphere of a hostel, but the staff is nice. It's a bit of a walk to the nearest ATM about 3 kilometers. Don't rent a bike through them, unless you truly enjoy riding on flat tires while the locals have a good chuckle. Overall the stay was satisfactory, but beyond that unimpressive. Anyone who just needs a place to stay and will only be there to sleep. Go for it.
