Very basic accomodation but clean and functional and at a very affordable price. The location is great if you want to see a bit of Harlem.

Solid--unremarkable, but nothing wrong. The staff were in many ways like at a Salvation Army thrift shop--plugging along disinterestedly, with some sense they're doing the community good. The neighborhood was just fine safety-wise IMHO (btw, I'm a white guy), but my girlfriend was more than a little uneasy when we first arrived at 11:30 p.m. Ultimately, with the YMCA institution behind it (there's a full-service gym and YMCA on site, with many regular clients), you can't go wrong.

My experience at Harlem YMCA was excellent. It was very clean and the rooms were nice.

Rooms are dirty, no trashcans inside. At night it was freezing cold, wind blew through the window for you couldn't really close it. I got a second key for the bathroom door and it got stuck in there - none of the stuff helped me to get it out so I just left it in there. The hostel looks nothing like the pictures you find about it. You feel like sleeping in a dirty sports gym. If you intend to stay in NYC, look for a better place right in the middle of Manhattan...

I appreciate the work that the YMCA does. The location provides ammenities that other locations may not such as access to indoor pool, fitness center, and ball court. For the those three things alone, it should be worth it. This was my second time there, the staff wasn't as friendly and the bathrooms were nasty. My room had not been mopped in months, probably. There were stains everywhere. The bathroom also did not appear to have been clean in a day or so. It was overall, okay. But I had hoped that it would have ranked up with some of my best experiences. But it didnt. Sorry.
