If I ever come back to Istanbul, I would look to stay here first.

The staff was very gently. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The only problem was the train, which went in front of the the double rooms windows. But soon you get used to this little "earthquakes".

Nice place, good location. Lots of sights within walking distance, tramstation at 15 minutes walk. Rooms are fine and clean. There's some noise from the street at night, but for a city relatively quiet (we stayed in a room at the street-side). If you don't mind shaking in your bed at night when the train/tram passes the building, it is a good place to stay for a couple of days. , but the passing train/tram just below the building

Sur Hotel is NOT a hostel. It is a regular hotel. The staff are rather unfriendly.

The Sure Hotel was good value for the money. The rooms were nice, all was there - TV, fridge, air conditioning. Breakfast was very, very good - eggs, vegetable, cheese, fruits, cakes, jam - all this on a nice terrace with a view over the sea. But, it is close to the railway tracks so if you get a room facing that side it can be a bit noisy. Location is ok, but it's more than 250 m from the tram stop. Also, have in mind it is in Sulthanamet - touristic area. If you are looking for more action, more night life and less touristic, Taksim area is a much better, nicer & cheaper option. Still, Sur Hotel can also be a good choice. We had only one little problem, I left my mobile in the room, but than we checked out and left. A few hours later I realized it but when I returned they said they didn't find it. I went to the room as I knew exactly where I left it but it was not there. So better don't leave things behind.
