Nothing special about this place. It does have a good location (near some cool sights and the Asakusa station), but the main drawback was that the reception closed everyday from 12-3.That made it difficult to ask questions, use guidebooks, etc. Zac, from USA ~ 21st May 2012

It's an acceptable value for money. Lawson 100 store is nearby, which means you can eat super-cheap. There are computers with free internet and you get a free drink on arrival. The hostel itself - the rooms are rather crammed and oldish. Hostel is not dirty, but I wouldn't call it clean either. At some places floors were sticky and the bathrooms were cleaned only "superficially". It might have been better. Bottom line: really really average and quite cheap. I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights. the rooms and beds are not so nice, a bit run down and very small (hardly no room for luggage). The reception hours are very short and not always very comfortable for check in and check out Ohad, from Israel ~ 3rd Apr 2012

Very easy to reach, the metro stop (Asakusa on Ginza Line) is very close. It s near the river, so if like to walk, you can go in a lot of places walking by the river. it s very clean, at 1st floor the reception/bar is very nice and cheap and a lot of japanese that go there for drink something and improve them english are the real best part of the Asakusa Smile, we re very thankful to lot of them, they helped us very much, for everything, planning travels inside japan, booking, discos, thanks a lot alessandro, from Italy ~ 2nd Apr 2012

Sticky floors, dirty beds (pillow/blanket). The Japanese Asakusa Smile way of doing the beds, where the bedseets don`t cover the entire blanket, I find unhygienic. I do not like finding black hairs in my bed, I`m blond... Inconvenient opening houers (only between 9-12, 15-21). Crowded and claustrophobic when the bar area was closed. No shower on each floor. Bring earplugs, thin walls. Plus for english speaking staff, location and efficient and polite check in. My first and last visit at A.S. Ruth, from Norway ~ 20th Mar 2012

The outside door was open during their noon office closure - anyone could have walked in, maybe a mistake by guests, but that could be secured by a self closing door. Wim, from Netherlands ~ 8th Mar 2012

I've had really good time in Asakusa Smile. It's located near Asakusa Station and people live there know where the hostels are(so it's easy to find except the truth that most of residences are weak at English...). Asakusa Smile has its own bar so we can easily talk to someone else from diverse nations. Resonable price, fast internet, frendly people... It was great experience. Very low security. Not enough lockers and no locks on the doors. The staff were nice and friendly, but didn't even take down my name or copy my identification when I arrived. Although the place is extremely clean, there are not nearly enough showers, computers, toilets, or outlets for the amount of guests staying. There IS a bar in the lobby area, but because of that there isn't a 'living area' where guests can relax. Read Owner Comments Melissa, from USA ~ 3rd Jan 2012

Free wifi, free computers to use, kitchen area, free drink on arrival in their own bar. Hostel parties with food / drink deals. Not in central Tokyo but in a nice area with markets and plenty going on. Would use again. Chris, from England ~ 8th Dec 2011
