It looked like they were doing some spiffing up when we were there.
Our room was directly above the bar. It reeked of cigarettes. Every morning I felt like I woke up in a bar. Truthfully, as a non-smoker, it was nasty (the smell)
Great place, friendly staff, good locatiopn, but too bad the smokers aren't outside.

During my stay I stayed in a room that smelled badly of damp and had visible signs of dampness which agrivated my asthma. I also found the cleanliness not up to the same standard as other hostels recommended in coast to coast.

Only spent three days here, but felt like it was my home! The staff were absolutely amazing - couldn't ask for better. I will recommend this hostel to everyone and anyone who is going to Cape Town!!!

We had a great stay at CTB. Staff was friendly, considerate, & informative. Double room ensuite was great deal - even had a balcony! Great location - easy walk to Long Street & Kloof Street. Would recommend to friends.

Having arrived in Cape Town Dec 27th 2007 it was a pleasure to be greeted via announcement at Cape Town International Airport (shutle service). I had no problems finding my way to the backpakers as my shuttle service was ready and waiting.
I arrived at the backpakers safe and well and was checked in by a member of staff namely Liz, an English girl who was efficient very competant and appeared to have a good understanding and workings of the hostel its self.

Bars on all windows would be a good thing so that windows can be left open during warm nights. This would also prevent unknown fellow guests climbing through windows of other rooms without waking the occupants first!! This little altication made us feel a little uneasy and very hot the following nights due to not wanting to leave the window open. However, other than this we had a fantastic time and would definately recomend the hostel to friends!!

The staff were lovely and were very helpful with questions and tips on what to do around the city.
I stayed in a twin room, which is located across the road from the main building. So you miss out on that social aspect of it.
In summer the rooms get VERY hot and there is NO cooling at all. One day got so hot and stuffy I went and bought a desk fan to just move the air around.
All in all, I liked this place - but would next time try and stay in the main building.
