Very clean Hostel. Haven't been to too many hostels but this is definitely one of the cleanest. Friendly and helpful staff. On site kitchen was always very clean and very large. All Ikea furniture. Bathrooms never felt "gross". Huge hostel, very spacious. Good deals with some of the things we did. Lots of activities offered. Jenna, from USA ~ 1st May 2012

The area is sketchy (Close to Tenderloin) with multiple crimes committed in that area during my two week stay.The staff is young, and security is based on them looking up form the computer and checking your key/security badge...this happens about 50% of the time.The breakfast is basic, the internet is VERY UNSTABLE, the rooms are clean, the cleaning staff is nice, the hot water is ok, the hostel sponsored events are good.An average big city hostel. This is a very well run facility. The rooms are as tiny, as you would expect in downtown SF, but everything was very clean, stuff was super helpful, I never had to wait for bathroom, and the breakfast was basic (coffee, bagels, cream cheese, jam, fruits), but very fresh and tasty. It gets really loud, both from the street and inside the hostel, but the reception offers complimentary earplugs, which is a nice touch. I stayed with my wife and we both felt comfortable at the Downtown Hostel.I would have prefered greater access to kitchen facilities (perhaps until midnight rather than the 10pm closure). The convenience of this location is fantastic for visitors and sightseers. JOSEPH, from England ~ 16th Feb 2012
