The place gets all pluses except for it's location- getting there was a pain in the behind..most locals didn't know the place either..it is about a 30 mins walk from the station. Having the map of the Homeikan goes a long way (one tends to get a bit lost even with the map.) But once there- this place is great-authentic Japanese ryokan experience. Also the staff was very helpful. Hemangi, from USA ~ 12th Oct 2009

beware of the communal showering rooms for those who are shy. we found that showering when we got back last at night usually meant that there was no one else in there tho:) oh, also try the traditional breakfast. kitty, from Australia ~ 25th Sep 2009

Very nice ryokan, we had no problem finding it at all (from Narita, take Skyliner train to Ueno, then it's a 15 minute walk). Staff was very friendly and the breakfast was very good. Free internet in a cozy corner of the lobby. Attitude wise, this place is best : the futon are very good, the decoration is awesome and it's a 10 minute walk from a metro station. We were VERY happy to stay there and would do so again. Marc-Andre, from Canada ~ 24th Sep 2009

I spent 5 nights there, very good place. NOTE: there's no wifi, but they give you internet cable for their internet. Kari, from Finland ~ 17th Jul 2009

A very good place to go as a couple or a family, but it's not really a hostel; I highly recommend this place for a taste of traditional Japanese hospitality. Michael, from USA ~ 30th Jun 2009

The first time it really is a bit of a pain to find (our taxi driver had a map I had printed in japanese and still had trouble). if you have any significant amount of luggage, you really need to get a Taxi because of the steep hill. Also, since the nearest subway stop (Kasuga-dori) has two lines meeting there, it can be difficult to orient yourself if you don:t come out of the Mita (blue) line's exits. Now with that out of the way, once you're there you will find one of the best deals for lo Dwight, from USA ~ 23rd Jun 2009

Even though we got lost on the way there (there are 3 houses and we weren't sure which one we were in. But when we showed up at the wrong house, they drove us to the right one), it was definitely worth it. This is a beautiful place, and you really get a sense of traditional Japanese stay. The hostel was brilliant. My first time staying in a Ryokan, but I actually enjoyed it and got a good nights sleep there. My only problem was that the directions given were not that great, and hence I struggled to find the place, but once I got there, it was good. Definitely recommend staying here, but also worth doing a lot of investigation beforehand in finding the place. Read Owner Comments Upesh, from England ~ 5th Feb 2009
