Hotel Discovery en Turin, Australia

The kitchen is too small, when you store your food in the kitchen it is taken by others, but nevertheless you are not allowed to store it in your room. There are not enough lockers for all guests of the hostel, especially in such a big hostel this is really unsafe! I stayed in a 16 bed dorm, there was only a small gap to open the window, so it was too hot to sleep in clothes, but i wasn't allowed to cover my bed to make it not visible for others. This place is fairly average although for the price and compared to other hostels in Melbourne it's a good deal. My favorite was their mini restaurant that produced surprisingly delicious food for cheaper than you could going to Subway and the likes. It's massive and sometimes with that many people it's harder to get a sense of community and people are a little more reserved. Still, they have a bar downstairs that has its moments. Location good, breakfast bit mad had to fight to get anything to eat and fresh cold milk would have been nice instead of warm long life milk! Also walls in room so thin you can hear everything going on in rooms next to you which is not nice!!! rachel, from England ~ 8th Oct 2011

The hostel was not very clean and there were no lockers in the room. Also there were not enough kitchen materials.. Also the check-in time is at 14.00 ! There is a bar in the basement, that is nice. The hostel is overall fine, but not great. Rosanne, from Netherlands ~ 13th Oct 2011

Kitchen was disgusting I saw few cockroach.

Hi Stephanie, Thanks for taking the time to provide us your feedback. There is no question a large hostels kitchen can get quite messy when it is very busy but I'm sorry to hear that you saw a cockroach. Although this is not so uncommon in the Australian kitchen sadly! Our housekeepers clean the kitchen after each meal time and also it is shut down overnight for more cleaning. The cupboards and fridges are also cleaned out twice a week to throw away any old food. We now also have staff manning the kitchen every night to make sure people clean up after themselves. Under new management, in the last 6 months our cleanliness rating has gone up on Hostelworld from 46% to 69% and is still rising. With the extra staff in the kitchen now it is much cleaner around the clock. I hope you enjoy the rest of your travels! Anna Heaton Assistant GM

Hallways were quite run down and shoddy, but the rooms and beds were new and clean. Good price, really friendly and helpful staff, and good atmosphere. Ridiculously expensive wireless internet, though. James, from Denmark ~ 12th Sep 2011
