I stayed three nights in the harmony hostel. Quite contrary to the author of the former post, I felt pretty safe. You can't enter the hostel without having to pass by the reception. The guys working there know their guests quite well, so chances are bad that you could just enter the hostel without someone taking notice of. They provide lockers in the room that look quite stable but you will have to bring your own padlock. Valuables can be safely stored at the reception. The front door is locked Sebastian, from Germany ~ 1st Jun 2012

There is only one room key for 8 girls. The door was left unlocked at night (barely even shut closed because the lock is old) because everyone isn't back so someone has to get up to open the door everytime. Rug shop men directly downstairs are sleazy. The shower didn't drain "cleaning" yourself while standing in dirty water. Staff is very friendly, airport shuttle is great, location is fantastic, rooftop gatherings were fun. I wouldn't stay here again. Fun but unsafe. I stayed for one night at Istanbul Harmony, and I was so surprised, 16 Lira for female dorm is completely a steal! The breakfast is nice, with the terrace view is the top of the Blue Mosque and another side showing you the Bosphorus strait. The only minus is the locker does not have a key, but all other facilities is excellent. It is located few steps from Gulhane tram stops and you can walk for less than 5 mins to Topkapi Pallace and other landmarks at Sultanahmet Square. Good location right next to a tram stop, lots of cheap eats, and just a few blocks from Aya Sofya, Blue Mosque, Cisterns, etc. Good party every night on the roof. Dorm was spacious, with good beds, good ventilation and lockers. Only one shower worked, so there was a wait most mornings, but not a big deal. One of the lowest priced hostels that includes breaky and lockers in Istanbul. Russ, from US Virgin Islands ~ 14th Aug 2011

We chose Harmony Hostel because it's cheap and the location is close to the major sights in Sultanahmet. It's an easy walk to the Topkapi palace, the Blue Mosque, and Aya Sofya, and the tram station is just a few steps away. It's also close to the harbour, so easy access to ferries etc. The street itself is lively and fun, with lots of shops and places to eat. Actually the hostel also runs a carpet shop downstairs - we made a really good deal there! The hostel staff are very friendly and hel Cecilie, from Norway ~ 22nd Jun 2011
