Kaiyue might not be the most modern hostel you ever stay in - yes the rooms are mostly in their original state from the hostel's days as a church, and yes, the location isn't beach side, but this should not deter anyone from staying at Kaiyue. Amazing renovation since the last time I was there (at least in the common area)! It looks great. Food was great too, and the staff was very helpful. This hostel is located in the old German quarter with easy bus access to the new part of town where there are some western cafes.

We cannot say enough good things about this hostel - we loved it and you will love it, too. The owners and staff are fantastic, friendly, helpful and always smiling. The common area is the most beautiful I've ever seen in a hostel, the coffee is good, rooms are spotless and plenty of hot water. We loved it!

A fun and cheap place to stay, but our room was really musty. My clothes still smell like cigarettes and mold, but what do you expect for $14 US a night for a twin ensuite? Good location right down the street from the Beer Goddess of Sifang Lu, who might give you a free beer if you hang out and chat for a while around the outdoor kegs.
