Wonderful guesthouse. One of the best I've ever stayed. The owners run the place in a family-like way, making you feel at home. They helped us cooking, played the guitar for us and shared long evening time conversations. For sure, if I had to come back to Kyoto I'd choose Sandalwood as my place. We had a fantastic time. Everybody should be cool and stay at Sandalwood. Shanon, from Australia ~ 9th Oct 2009

This is the best hostel in my 6 days trip in Kansai area, Japan. Staff are very nice and make sure I feel good in the room. The environment is very nice and I like the common room, very comfortable! I make new friends there. I will definitely stay in this hostel if I go to Kyoto again! Chong, from China ~ 21st Aug 2009

Our hosts were very friendly and helpful in giving us suggestions on what to see and do and how to get there. Deborah, from USA ~ 29th Aug 2009

THE BEST hostel I've stayed at to date. Zin and Jumi, are more like friends than hosts. Their hospitality is amazing: offering tea, fruit platters, SOJU, all while chilling on the couch and watching movies at night. Jumi is gorgeous and kind-hearted, and Zin shows me all the fun places in Kyoto! Daniel, from USA ~ 25th Jul 2009

The Sandal Wood Hostel was THE best hostel that I've ever stayed at. The place is constantly kept clean (the staff always offers to do your dishes too) and Zin and Jumi always do their absolute best to make sure that your stay is as enjoyable as it possibly can be. They're also part of a band and play some amazing music. It's not uncommon to have some good jamming sessions during the night with Zin and Jumi. Look at it this way, I was only supposed to be in Kyoto for 3 days and I've been Luc, from Canada ~ 12th Jul 2009

Staying in Sandalwood was much more like being welcomed into someones cozy little home, it is not your standard hostel and thats why im filling out this review. The staff were great people, Gin is a very generous and cool guy and Jumi is a drop dead georgeous girl with a heart to match. You know it is a unique place when they sit you down and give you tea and fruit upon arrival. I reccomend to stay there whenever possible, it is a really great place. jacob, from USA ~ 5th Jul 2009

I didn't stay there. The place was a mess and at 3:30 they hadn't made the bed I was supposed to use and ask me to wait. The MGR was nice and I am sure if you are a hippy/dippy 4:20 person you will have no problems there...as for me- Neil, from USA ~ 29th May 2009
