Pros: the staff are friendly. The hostel is located 1 block from the metro and 2 blocks from Taksim, making it convenient to walk to. The sheets on the beds were clean, lots of hot water, and WiFi. Cons: feels like a run-down hotel. Rooms are heavily worn, mismatched furniture and painful color combinations. Bathrooms not cleaned daily and smelled of mildew. Badly-stained carpet. Staff smoke in the building. No lobby, just a small sitting area, impossible to meet others who were staying there. Jesse, from USA ~ 25th Apr 2012

I found the hosts here to be very kind, and the room to offer good value for the price. One thing to know is that this is NOT located in the main tourist area. You can visit the very nearby Istiklal street, but there is a lot less English spoken here than there is in Sultanahmet. If you plan to land here, I recommend learning a few Turkish basic words before venturing out.Unlike Sultanahmet, most people do not speak English in my experience. That said, what better way to dive in! We stayed a week and had a wonderful time. Hostels are not just for the young,I went to Turkey with my husband and autistic son(29)after 11 days touring it was lovely to be able to cook and relax in one place. The staff were always cleaning. They were always on hand, helpful, socialising and patient with our son. Our PREVIOUS hotel the staff were overbearing with suggestions for guided tours in Cappadocia.Istanbul card valid on trams, metro, buses, boats to many places~Princes Islands great!THANKS!!! The name says it all. This place is chill. İt is close to everything without being around all the noise. 10 minute walk to Taksim Square and a 2 minute walk to Şışhane. The atmosphere is very relaxed with a community living room where all business is conducted. The staff is very helpful. When İ need to extend my trip by 3 nights, they happily accomodated. Highly recommended. John, from USA ~ 5th Oct 2011

This hostel has a buzzer system rather then an entry code or key access.I was not issued a key for my individual room either. This meant the only thing stopping a random person from the street from coming into my room while i slept was whether or not the current staff on duty (they rotated a few times a day) happened to know the face of the person who had buzzed. And considering that Ihad encountered new staff and they didn't ask what room I was or confirm my id, there didn't seem to be a process Andrea, from USA ~ 24th Sep 2011

Hostel is located on a quiet street in 2min. walking distance to the Metro and Istiklal street (taksim) where there is 24 Hour living and it´s very clubbable at night. The staff is very kind and helpfull all 24Hour. The price is very reasonable, it´s very clean and always warm water. We would definetly stay at Chill Out Pera again if l visit istanbul. We had a little problem to find it becouse there is no sign on the building but that was just for first time. Hostel is in great location and after that we always go straight to it. Room was clean and house provide everything you need for few days. Staff was nice and helpful. One more problem we had with wi-fi connection. We could connect but signal in our room was really poor. Fortunately you can use laptop in reception and there is quick connection. I think this hostel was excellent choice ) Mrtin, from Czech Republic ~ 16th Aug 2011

We only stayed for 3 nights and that was enough to create an excellent relationship with the people. The staff is great very helpful, the hostel isn't very big but is cosy.It isn't very easy to find but if you follow the instructions on the reservation sheet you should be fine. And one more thing there are no air-conditioner. Natalya, from Russia ~ 3rd Aug 2011

I stayed 4 nights at Chillout Pera during my journey in Istanbul and I have to say that I was positively surprised by the quality of services delivered by the staff. I was in a clean single room, the bathroom and toilets have been renovated and they provide free internet access. The location is great as well, very close to the Galata Tower, Istiklal Street and the metro station Shishane. Very quiet though and convenient if you come from both Airports with the shuttle (last stop is Taksim Square) CHAFIK, from France ~ 14th Aug 2011
