I nice place with very helpful staff, but a little difficult to find if you're driving a car without GPS. However the staff (shout out to Josh!) are great about helping you get there. Beds are super comfortable and rooms are air conditioned. Location is ideal. Old San Juan is just a 10 minute, 50-cent bus ride away. Only stayed for one night, but would definitely book here again if heading back to San Juan. Carson, from USA ~ 28th May 2012

That is the most sociable hostel I've ever stayed at. Thomas, from USA ~ 21st May 2012

If you want a fun place to stay, look no further. The staff here rock- they plan events (bartours, toga beach night) & actually remember your name. Location is ok, 20 min walk to the beach, a bit longer hike to Old San Juan (hint: take the bus). Neighborhood is residential, a few blocks nearby feel a bit dicey at night, but the hostel never felt unsafe. Mattress was comfy. Downsides: small rooms and there are only 2 showers, so queues occasionally form. Oh, ask about dramatic chicken (trust me). Justin, from USA ~ 18th May 2012

room was clean and place was in a great location. Staff were helpful if not some what low key,had a very casual feel and we were not expecting more.Unlike some of the reviews the bathroom and room were acceptable size and we enjoyed our stay! Andrew, from USA ~ 16th May 2012

Don't bother looking for any other place to stay in San Juan. DON'T! You want a hostel? Your search ends here. If you cannot have fun at the Palace - then you must be a corpse. Even if you are one, your body will be adequately dressed in a toga and fed bananas. Shawn, from USA ~ 2nd May 2012

The Palace Hostel is a brand new hostel opened up late October 2011 by an American entrepreneur from Dallas, Texas. The owner opened up the hostel because he recognized that San Juan, Puerto Rico has very few hostels available for American tourist. The facilities and rooms are very well equipped. Rooms are very large and they are have wifi available. The hostel also provides free breakfast. Overall, I would recommend this new hostel to any tourist visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico. My first stay in a hostel! Bit concerned about staying in a mixed dorm room, but everyone was very considerate. Lots of camaraderiebetween the guests. Only 'complaint': bunk beds very close together in a small bedroom. Plenty of bathrooms and even a small breakfast provided. Free parking on the neighborhood street right outside. Not too far to walk to restaurants/groceries. Tricky to find the place with all the one-way streets, but not impossible. Linda, from USA ~ 24th Apr 2012

This was my first time at a hostel and I found it to be so fun!Shannon and the other employees were super friendly, even invited us out on the town with them the first night.I expected to be kept up all night by noisy young people, but it was actually the opposite.People were respectful of others and I would recommend this way of travelling to anyone that wants value and not snobby. I only have one suggestion, it would be really nice if the room had small shelves to set toiletries on. natalie, from USA ~ 19th Mar 2012

The staff were nice and helpful. The place was cozy, private and clean with ac and a kitchen. The minimal "wrong" thing was that it was located a bit far from old san juan and the cab drivers asked for 16 dollars to go like 2-3 miles. Nice place to meet people around the worls and the US. The Palace Hostel was a fun place to stay. The rooms aren't very big, so one would have to be a light traveler to make the most of it. Friendly atmosphere and pretty centrally located. Not far from the Condado beaches by foot. Security was never an issue. It's in a residential area, so there's always the opportunity to meet locals. The staff made a delicious meal of BBQ plantians served with cole slaw and corn for $5...not bad!!! I'd definitely choose the hostel over a hotel ANY day!!! Marcus, from USA ~ 11th Mar 2012
