Nice hostel with good management. It is close to the monkey temple but away from Thamel, the tourist area. You can potentially walk to Thamel (30 mins) but it's a dusty, polluted hike - Cab/Taxi are 150-200 NPR. Hot water is solar only - pretty bad if the sun doesn't come out in cold weather. No Wifi. Free hot Breakfast is nice. Owners are cool and fun to hang out with. They are moving to a newer facility few minutes from the current one soon. Ajit, from India ~ 14th Feb 2012

The Sparkling Turtle hostel is truly a gem in Kathmandu! Not only is the atmosphere there what every backpacker looks for - friendly, fun, helpful beyond belief, tons of other travellers to meet and make friends with - but the food is incredible!I was traveling Nepal solo and found this place to be my home away from home! I miss it already! When I come back to Nepal I know exactly where I'm staying! Jody, from Canada ~ 20th Jan 2012

This is by far the cleanest hostel I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Everything was great here, except one thing. They say they have wifi internet, but they really don't. Several others and myself were unable to use it and when we asked the management about fixing it we didn't get a very constructive response. So, if you need internet don't stay here, if you don't care about internet then this is probably the nicest hostel you will likely ever stay at.

Great place to stay, a home away from home! The owners are friendly and incredibly helpful and the staff are a great bunch. Internet is free but sometimes cuts out - that's Nepal though. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a great place to rest your head and meet great people before heading out on a trek or wherever Nepal may take you! A perfect surprise upon landing! The hostel is the best value for money accommodation I've found on my year of travel. The rooms are totally clean, nicely decorated in Nepali style, have very comfortable beds and have better shared bathrooms than expensive hotels in Thamel! The food at the hostel is very good, even the included breakfast is prepared to your personal taste in a perfect blend of Eastern and Western. As for atmosphere, you wont find more friendly staff anywhere else. I've stayed at jack, from England ~ 6th Sep 2011
